About Jesse Gervich

Founder and Lead Trainer

Jesse Gervich grew up in West Des Moines, Iowa – back when it was just a rural town. Dog training has been an integral part of his life from an early age.

Jesse’s first dog was a 150lbs Bloodhound named Chewbacca (as shown in the photo). As a kid, around the age of 9, he took care of neighborhood dogs when neighbors were away on vacation and volunteered to walk dogs around his neighborhood. Jesse had a dog in his life when he was born, and hasn’t lived a life without dogs since.

Growing up, Jesse was always training the family dogs. His family had Bloodhounds, shelter dogs, an English Setter, and then exclusively Malamutes. He learned about dog training through his Dad. As a child, Jesse would watch his dad come home exhausted with a torn shirt from taking Chewbacca through basic obedience training. As he got older, he took the rest of the family dogs through Basic Obedience classes, including three Alaskan Malamutes. Jesse would also continue training with friends who had dogs.

The two biggest passions of Jesse’s life have been dog training and playing music as a bass player. He moved to Minneapolis, and lived there for 12 years with his Malamute and Basset Hound. After his beloved Malamute, Nika, passed away, Jesse decided to move away from the freezing cold of Minnesota to the warmer climes of New Orleans, intending to explore his passion for playing music after attending music school.

After living in NOLA for 6 years, Jesse really wanted to make his passion for dog training a professional career. To pursue his dream, he applied – and was accepted to – a prestigious dog training college to get certified as a Master Dog Trainer. While there he had a unique opportunity to be exposed to many different dog training disciplines and was certified in training working police dogs, search & rescue dogs, cadaver dogs, detection dogs, service dogs, pet dogs & behavioral modification. Jesse graduated from the Master Dog Trainer Program in December of 2022. He then applied for an internship at the school he graduated and was offered the internship where he interned an additional 6 months getting a more in depth experience with instructors. As Jesse explains, this multifaceted program covered all aspects of dog training.

“What I loved about the Master Dog Trainer course was that it encompassed everything: Service Dog, Pet Dog, Behavioral Modification and Working Dog Training.

Every single day, I wake up excited for dog training in pursuit of learning more. I am always educating myself with new concepts and attending any educational opportunities I can find to stay current in the industry of dog training. Currently, I am very excited and passionate about training my dog “Zappa” in the dog sport of Mondioring. We belong to First in Flight Mondioring Club, and we train regularly. It’s hugely fulfilling for both me and my dog, and it also allows me to grow as a trainer.

What I would like to achieve for my clients is to improve their relationship and communication with their dog. I want to improve their relationship with their dog as a family member – not only making them better living companions, but more importantly, teaching my clients to establish a solid “working relationship” with their dog.

I also want to help people who need help with severe dog behavioral problems causing great stress and strain on their home life. I also like training dogs for people’s needs whether it be in the spectrum of a working dog, service dog or any kind of sport dog.”

Jesse is also experienced with decoy work, primarily for protection and Police K9s. He is also a member of the International Association of Canine Professionals (IACP), trained in K9 First Aid and CPR, and is a member of the US Mondio Ring Association (USMRA).
